We couldn't free up space on the clipboard. Another program might be using it right now.

Problem:

While dragging the cells or Merging the cells in excel 2013 you might get the error.
"We couldn't free up space on the clipboard. Another program might be using it right now"

Cause:
There could be any reason for this error message and it occurs when your memory usages will increase.

Like using skype,bing desktop toolbar,Zone allarm,Multimon taskbar,team viewer,Ask Toolbar.

Solution:

Step 1: Look into event viewer for the error code.You can type Eventvwr.msc in Run Window.

Step 2: Open Task bar and close and exit the that process which might causing the issue.

Step 3: If possible un install all those programs mentioned above to check the status.

Step 4 : Try to increase the Virtual Memory of your computer.You can right click on mycomputer-> properties ->  Advanced -> Visual effects -> update the max memory to your computer.

Hope this will fix the issue.

  1. Same Excel problem here with a Win 7 Pro laptop with Office 365 installed.
    I identified the problem to the presence of ZoneAlarm. When ZA is disabled the problem goes away.

  2. Same here. I shut down programs one by one until finally Zone Alarm was identified as the culprit. Windows 8.0; Office 365.

  4. I don't have Zone Alarm or Bing Desktop installed. I saw where someone said that closing Outlook helped them, once I closed Outlook, the problem resolved itself.

  5. Closing down Skitch did it for me. Ridiculous - I have 12 GB of RAM. Good grief.

Problem:  Setup cannot find office.en-us\dwtrig20.exe during office installation Solution: Method 1 : a) Uninstall skype form control panel. b) After installing office, re-install skype.
